I hope you had a good Monday and somewhat recovered from yesterday’s events. I am still not over last night’s This Is Us, but that that is a whole other story. I wanted to share with you my current skincare routine, as I have posted a few reviews on the products I used the last couple of weeks.
Keep on reading to find out more!
So my skincare routine has been a long time coming. There are days when my skin is great and I see the best results. However, there are days like today and yesterday (and the day before) where this weather has done everything possible to keep my skin from looking good. To give you an idea of what my skin is like, this is what I suffer from:
- Extreme dryness during the Winter months
- Redness around the nose and mouth
- Breakouts year round, but more during the Winter
I have thought about seeing a dermatologist, but the wait time is discouraging me, as it is 1-1.5 year wait. Regardless, I do my best to drink as much water as I can and to keep up my with my routine.
Step 1: Precleanse
A couple of weeks ago, I asked you whether I should buy Dermalogica’s Precleanse or Clinique’s Take The Day Off Balm. Even though Dermalogica has a huge following, I was told Clinique was the way to go, so off I went :).
I did a full review on this product, which you can read here. I use this each and every single time before I use a facial cleanser, as it breaks down all of my makeup and makes my skin that much cleaner.
Step 2: Cleanser
With a cleanser, I am still trying to find the one that I absolutely love. Right now, I am using Marcelle’s Ultra Gentle Cleansing Gel. This cleanser has been perfect for my skin as it is non-irritating, hypo-allergenic and perfume free. It is very gentle to my skin and does a perfect job clearing anything that is left over.
Step 3: Toner
Right now I am using Lush’s Breath of Fresh Air toner and it is very refreshing ;). I spoke to the girl working at Lush for a long time and told her the products that I am currently using. She said this toner was the best to use right after cleansing and before I did anything else with my skin. The Breath of Fresh Air helps even out my skin tone, decreases redness and minimizes pores. I have found that my redness has diminished for the first time in a long time, so this is something I will continue to use unless something better comes along.
Step 4: Spot Treatment
This spot treatment was given to me for Christmas by my sister-in-law. She went to the Deciem store in Toronto and spoke to the team that works there on a skincare regimen that would work for my skin. They told her 3 products that would be the best and how to use them.
The first of them that I am using is The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid, which is meant to only go on problem areas and not to be used on the whole face. I really enjoy this spot treatment as it has prevented a lot of acne from growing any larger. Most times if I notice one, it will be less noticeable the next morning. I highly recommend this product!
Step 5: Moisturiser
Man, moisturizer has been my saviour this Winter! The first one that I love is also another product by Deciem. I have been using The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. This product is so lightweight and gentle on the skin. I don’t find it to be oily at all, but it does take awhile for the product to be absorbed. However, it does do a great job with keeping my skin hydrated.
The second moisturizer that I will definitely be purchasing is Lush’s Cosmetic Lad. I got this as a sample and I am obsessed. I do love this one a bit more than The Ordinary, as I feel like it provides more moisture to my skin. I have less dry patches with Cosmetic Lad and my skin looks healthier. It is pricier, but definitely worth it.
I hoped you enjoyed reading about my skincare routine. I am not a huge skincare buff, so I am still learning what works best for my skin and where I should use it in my routine. However, I am not becoming aware of what ingredients are in products and what should not be applied to my skin.
If there is something else I should add to my routine, please leave a comment down below. I would love to hear from you!
