Hey Everyone!
I posted 2 weeks ago about the products I received to review from Younique Cosmetics. I gave you my first impressions, but now I am going to review each product individually. Younique is a makeup brand that a lot of people have mixed reviews about. I am sure you have all heard about this company through Facebook or Instagram as it is heavily promoted. This type of promotion has turned some people off completely swearing off buying any type of product from this brand.
I understand where you are coming from, as I thought the promotion was a bit too pushy and aggressive. However, when I was asked to review these products I thought it would be a good idea. It would allow me to share my thoughts and personal opinion of each item without being bias. I am in no way affiliated with Younique Cosmetics, so each review will be based off my honest opinion.
What is it?
This foundation is a mineral liquid foundation that is available in 10 different shades suitable for most skin types. I have never used a mineral liquid foundation before, so I had to look up how to apply it properly. The product comes out as a liquid but leaves a powder finish. Their website states:
This smooth foundation goes on liquid and dries to a soft, powdery finish while optical diffusers blur imperfections and minimize wrinkles and pores. No touch-ups necessary.
The bottle retails for $47 CAD.
Packaging
Each foundation comes in a glass bottle with a black eye dropper.
Application
As I mentioned, I have never used a mineral liquid foundation before. The consistency and the formula is so different than what I am used to. When applying, you could either use a damp beauty blender, which I swear by or you could also use a flat top brush which would work just as well. I take the eye dropper and apply a few drops to the top of my hand. From there, I dab small dots over my face and then blend it out. I am sure you could do it a different way, but that is what I read and it worked fairly well.
What I Liked
Despite what I initially thought, it was very easy to apply and to blend. I figured with this type of formula it would be messy, but it wasn’t. I was a bit concerned with the shade I picked, but it actually matched me perfectly! I noticed that the formula is extremely light on the skin and it barely felt like I was wearing foundation. That is especially good for days when you don’t feel like wearing a whole lot of makeup.
What I Didn’t Like
If you have read my posts, you would know that I love a full coverage foundation. I have said it so many times, it’s a bit ridiculous. So you can understand my disappointment when I realized that this foundation wouldn’t give me the coverage I wanted and so desperately needed. I wear foundation to cover up my imperfections and even out my skin tone like most people do. So, I almost find it pointless when a foundation doesn’t do that for me.
The coverage was so sheer that I could see my dark circles and redness coming through. I had more coverage using the matte Fitme! powder from Maybelline. As I continued to wear it, the foundation was breaking up on my face and setting into the creases and fine lines. It wasn’t doing anything for me. I was quite happy to take it off.
Would I Purchase It?
No. I love the light formula and how refreshing it makes my skin feel, but the coverage wasn’t good and it was not long-lasting at all. It’s unfortunate when I can get more coverage from my $6 powder than a foundation. I could be expecting a lot especially since this is my first time using a mineral liquid foundation. However, I have seen others wear this same foundation and get better results with it, so that could be where I am getting the disappointment from.
I would love to try other high-end liquid foundations and compare it to this one. Please let me know your thoughts and how you feel about liquid foundations.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed the review 🙂
I recently purchased this foundation and I am really disappointed. The coverage just isn’t all its made out to be and it comes off my face within a couple of hours. I have used it with primer and without and it’s always the same result. My normally clear skin is now broken out, which just plain sucks.

Thanks for leaving a comment and letting me know your thoughts 🙂 I am glad I am not the only one who didn’t like it. The expectations were high for this foundation because the coverage was supposed to be medium to full but it really doesn’t cover much. It’s unfortunate that it has made you break out!

This is exactly why I won’t be buying another bottle of this. It increased the appearance of my already large pores and made me look older by accentuating my fine line wrinkles. I so wanted this to work because the shade is absolutely perfect compared to my skin tone.

I agree with everything you said! Thank you for leaving me your thoughts. The shade is perfect, but either than that there isn’t much pros to this foundation.

Great review. Honesty appreciated. I haven’t tried the brand because their sales tactics are aggressive.

Wow, so sorry to hear that the product didn’t work for you! I’m actually really, really surprised because I’ve seen it totally cover tattoos in real life. So I’m really not sure why the coverage was not good for you! It’s my favorite foundation ever! 🙂

I don’t understand why the coverage wasn’t good for me either. I have seen other people have such success with it so I figured it would be the same for me. I really do love the formula though.

Yea that’s so odd! I love the formula, too. I usually hate liquid foundation! But ours is my favorite ever, not just cause I sell it either lol. Literally it’s the best foundation ever to me. I don’t know if you were gifted the foundation, but if you purchased it, you can return it for a refund or credit

I didn’t buy the foundation, so that is alright. I am going to try some different things and see if I can make it work. I do have oily skin so that could be a reason as well.

Do you have a powder brush? The best application I’ve seen is by using a powder brush. Hope this helps!!!

I do have a powder brush! I will have to try it out. I have not given up hope haha

Yea, let me know if that helps! The people I personally know that were able to cover up scars, tattoos, etc used a powder brush, specifically the one that we sell, but I don’t see why any one that you have wouldn’t work. Or a very dense brush. Hope this helps!!

The bottle design and dispensing mechanism is really similar to Armani Maestro foundation!
I like a light to medium coverage so I’m not sure if I’d like a super light coverage – it’s almost like, why bother?
This formula doesn’t sound like a good fit for your oily skin type. Maybe you could make it work by using a primer underneath, or mix it with another foundation (a heavy coverage one) you have.
I got a sample of the MAC Mineral liquid foundation and it’s targeted toward dryer skin types – and I also had a mineral liquid foundation from Body Shop that was quite emollient – maybe mineral ones are usually more targeted toward dry skin types?
The foundation I really loved recently was from MAC called Matchmaster. It’s medium coverage and goes on really nicely. I got a sample to try – maybe you can do that? I’ll have a review of it coming up next week.

I really should have used a primer with this foundation. I will have to find a way to make it work with something else. Who knows, it could be really great! I feel like mineral ones are targeted for dry skin as well because I see a fair amount of Youtubers who have dry skin and they use them all the time with no problems.
I’ll check that one out from MAC. I always neglect them but they have some of the best products.

I feel like a failure of a beauty blogger, I barely pay any attention to Younique! I group it in there with NARS, Clinique, and Marc Jacobs in the “brands I can’t realistically afford”. =P Sorry this foundation was such a disappointment! Have you ever tried tarte’s foundation? Apparently they may a pretty high coverage, heavy foundation… you might like it. =)

I agree with you. The really pricey brands I completely ignore. I was actually looking at Tarte’s after I did this review and I think I might get a sample. So many rave reviews of it! High coverage is dream haha

Thank you for the honest review girl! I have a few people asking me to purchase Younique from them, but I don’t even use foundation in the first place. These review(s) will give me some insight to see if any of the other products may work for me!

honestly, there are a lot of much better products out there. Their stuff is good but I could live without it if that makes sense lol

Yes it does make sense 🙂 I wore it without a primer which I don’t normally do. But please let me know how you like it when you receive it!

This review is accurate with or without the primer used. I bought the set: concealer, foundation, brushes, primer and used it all. It settles in to fine lines and pores regardless of brush technique (buffing, patting, stippling), with or without primer. Didn’t so much as cover a slightly discolored spot from an old pimple, yet alone melasma or freckles. Within 4 hours it looked like I had nothing on except for the foundation settled in to my press and lines. I have slightly oily skin, but not that only. Did a comparison between cover girl aqua smooth foundation with Nivea balm underneath as primer, no settling, still there and covered after 4 hours. Crazy that $13 worth of product performed significantly better than $100 worth ( sale price) .
