Nail Polish Recommendations

Hi all!

It’s 11 p.m. right now and I went to go paint my nails and I realized how little nail polish I have. Plus the selection was not working for me. Naturally, I gave up, threw the polish back in the basket and decided to take to my blog and get your recommendations.

I am honestly the worst when it comes to nail polish. I find the most horrible colours and my selection is really bad to be honest. I really want fun, spring/summer colours. Anything that is pastel is great in my books!

Please let me know what I should go with!

My sad, sad collection haha. As you can see, this girl needs help!

I am going to bed now, but I look forward to your recommendations in the morning πŸ™‚

  1. The new gel collection from Essence is really nice, and supercheap! You have to buy a base and top coat, but it’s like €3-4 and the colors are €2-3, so instaed of buying 1 of Essie, you can buy almost 5 of Essence! I love them!

  2. Hi! I love nailpolishes and I’m actually quite obsessed πŸ™‚ My favourite brands are Essie, L’OrΓ©al Color Riche and Sephora Formula X. Love their formulations and colour range! I also have a post going up on my blog on monday about my favourite nailpolishes, maybe you can give that a look. πŸ™‚ X

  3. Oh my! That is a sad little nail polish basket!!! πŸ˜›
I have a post on my nail polish stash, maybe that will give you SOME ideas?

My favourite formula hands down is Essie, some good summery Essie shades to check out:
Braziliant – orange with pink shimmer
Coral Reef – hot coral pink
Pink A Boo – sheer pale pink with blue shimmer (I find sheer pastels to be easier to work with than milky cream pastels)
Tennis Corset – sheer white with gold shimmer (this looks amazing against a tan)

Essence (at Shoppers) also sells some great colours and they’re inexpensive but the polish quality is quite good.
Sinful Colors (at Rexall) are inexpensive and decent quality – I have a couple of shades and my favourite is called Glass Pink which is a sheer pale pink with gold shimmer, very easy to apply and pretty on
Yves Rocher nail polishes are surprisingly very good and they’re usually on sale – get the tall slim bottles, not the tiny stubby ones – those suck.

Color Club – you should check out Winners for the Color Club sets, they’re great value ($15 for 7 polishes) and you can get a full range of shades. They look like this usually:

Hope this helps! If you want more shade recommendations, let me know!

    • Omg that is amazing! My sad little basket is so pathetic haha…but I never was into nail polish just because they would always chip off and I didn’t think it was worth the cost of buying any.
I went to Rexall today and bought a couple of Sinful Colors because they were all on sale! I was reading everybody’s comments today and Sinful was a popular one.
It’s funny because you can put me in a room full of makeup and I could tell you something about each product. Put me in a room full of nail polish and I am lost haha.
Thank you for all the recommendations, it definitely helps me out when I know where to go in Canada. I didn’t even think about Winners, but they always have sales on them! I will definitely come to you in the future for recommendations! πŸ™‚

      • Glad you got some Sinful Colors and they were on sale! πŸ˜€
Before I was really into makeup, I was more into my nails – then I went away from nails and got into makeup more… now I’m into both. The one thing I’m no good at really is HAIR. Mine isn’t too fussy so I just leave it alone mostly. I guess we all have our interests! πŸ™‚

  4. You really should try Sinful Colors. I’m about to do a review of their nail polish on my blog. They have great pigmentation and even with my very hands on job I’ve found no chipping. Super high quality and very inexpensive.

  5. I agree with lots of other commenters – Essie is a really great brand and the display shelves at stores are always so nice and easy to browse through. If you’re looking for something a little less expensive, China Glaze is another good one. They have some really great bright summery shades. Sinful Colors is great for the most part, but Walgreens has them on sale for 99 cents on a regular basis, so look out for that before paying full price! Pure Ice is another good one, I think. About $2 at Walmart and a nice variety of colors. Most brands come out with collections based on the season so it should be easy to find fun bright colors now, and you may find some springtimey pastel shades on clearance!

    • oooh thank you! Essie is always the first brand I see, I just hate the price ($11.99 here in Canada blah!) I went and bought some Sinful Colours today and they have a ton on clearance which was great. I never really cared for painting my nails, but now I am so into it. Thank you for all the information πŸ™‚

      • Wow, 11.99 is insane. Essie is cool but definitely not worth that! If I can help it, I avoid paying full price to any polish that usually costs over $3. I’m totally unfamiliar with what is available to you in Canada, but if you have a Marshall’s (or probably any discount department store) you can check there for super discounted OPI, Essie, Butter London, stuff like that. If you have Sally Beauty, many of the stores here have a ton of clearance polish at the end of the month, sometimes for 50% off the clearance price. That’s a good place to get China Glaze.

Sorry my comments are stupid long, I always get overexcited when I talk about nail polish lol

        • I know! I have a few because they have gone on sale, but I won’t go out of my way to purchase that brand. We have a Marshall’s here and a Winners, which is the exact same thing as Marshall’s. I will have to take a look this weekend and hopefully find some great discounts.
Don’t worry about the long comments, it’s good to be excited about something! πŸ™‚
          Thank you again πŸ™‚

  6. Essie, OPI are my favorite and colors like blue, purple and coral is what I like for summer.
I don’t know how do any nail art at all πŸ™‚ so I just paint all in blue and switch just my ring finger to a different color! Life of people who drool on others nail art ..LOL…

    • Omg don’t even get me into nail art! I see everybody’s posts on them and I can’t help but be envious, it’s so good! I do have 2 bottles from Essie and OPI but they are such winter colours!

  7. Flower Beauty (by Drew Barrymore) has some beautiful shades. They last pretty well, and aren’t too expensive either. You can get them at Walmart.

  8. While I do tend to buy more of Essie, I recently discovered Revlon’s collection and it’s pretty good! You’d think it being a drugstore brand and inexpensive that it wouldn’t be as good as the others, but it’s definitely a nice/cheaper alternative.

  9. I find that most popular brands chip on me (like Essie and China Glaze) so I tend to reach for brands like Orly and Seohora’s formula x πŸ™‚ they are a tad on the expensive side but in my opinion, are definitely worth it!

  10. My collection was alot like this but then i came across essie and china Glaze, i get all my fun bright and girly colours from china glaze and most of natural and burgundy and reds from essie, both last the longest on my nails πŸ™‚ xx

  12. Oh you poor dear! I am liking my pinks lately. I have most of them from O.P.I. I love ones with subtle shimmer. I am going to do a post here pretty soon on my favorite pinks. I also love Zoya polishes.

  13. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel is my current favourite. You need to buy the matching top coat, but it wears really well so it’s worth it! Pinky Promise is a cute pastel pink.
