Happy Hump Day!
Sunny days and working late are probably the worst combination. How is everybody’s day going?
I am in need of a new primer, but before I go out and buy one, I wanted your thoughts. I am almost completely out of my Maybelline FaceStudio Primer, which you all know I am obsessed with. I love trying out new products, so I am deciding if I should stick with my primer that I have been non-stop talking about or If I should buy something else, maybe more high end. I have been thinking about the primer from Smashbox, but I wanted to get your opinions first.
I do want a primer that will blur out the redness, as I really do love that aspect of Maybellines.
What are your thoughts?

I recommend Stila One Step Correct; it’s a swirly blend of green, lavender & peach with serum and it’s amazing on skin with redness. If you find you have redness, sometimes it’s best to use a redness-reducing moisturizer as your morning moisturizer, after a while this will eliminate your need for a “green primer”. Try or ask for samples of Reversa Anti-Redness Soothing Care and/or Bioderma Sensibio AR Anti-Redness Care.

(I didn’t read all the previous comments, so hopefully no one has talked about this one already)! Buuuuut, I recently ordered Smashbox “try it” kit and in it was their Photo Finish Foundation Primer. I used it today for the first time, and was very impressed! It goes on very smooth and matte and my foundation did not move. It is oil free and I did notice my face did not get as oily throughout the day.
LikeLike
I need something like that! My face is oily and red, but I find that I have more time controlling the oily aspect than the redness. I was just on Sephora and I saw the kit! I am contemplating purchasing it for the primer.

The eye shadow primer was great and I love the mascara!! I was not thrilled with the eye shadow though too much fall- out!!

That is the worse! I love Smashbox though and I wish I had more products, but it gets so pricey lol

I completely agree!! When I buy “high end” makeup, I always try to get the kits that are on sale or just buy the samples!

I need to do that! With the amount of makeup I have, it takes me forever to go through a full size product. I might as well just buy the kits or samples!

Bare Minerals makes one that is color correcting for redness and so does Clinique.

Ahh Clinique, I love that company! I don’t know why I don’t think of these companies when I am looking for a new product haha. Thank you for letting me know 🙂

Laura Mercier! Its wonderful primer! I have done a review on it. You wont regret it. 😉 Another one to consider is Bare Minerals Complexion Recovery. Understand from sephora sales lady that this also acts like a primer. You should test this out at Sephora! Else try the primer by korean company, VDL. They are also known for their primers that helps tp correct complexion. Hope these helps.

Thank you! This helps a lot! When it comes to primers, I have only been using them for a short while, so I know some that are great. I need to make a trip to Sephora and get testers, so I can get a feel for each one. I love Laura Mercier, so I am hoping to get a tester of hers.
Thank you again 🙂

Maybellines baby blur primer is good! i know its not high end but i find it works really well and feels so light on my skin..
the other one i used to use was the body shop wonder blur, even though its not an actual primer it works as one and completely removes the redness and evens the skin tone. but i stopped using it because it felt heavy on my skin personally but i know loads of people that use it and love it! x

Maybelline products are so great! There is never anything wrong with them, well at least in my opinion. I need that light feeling on my skin or else it’s a no go.
I heard about the wonder blur but wasn’t sure how people were liking it. Thank you for the suggestions 🙂

I use Bare Minerals’ primer everyday! It makes your face feel like buttery soft lol. It is for redness so it’s yellow and it has SPF!

I really like Benefit’s Porefessional for the coverage it has. I rotate wearing it with Cover FX Mattifying Primer, and Pixi Flawless and Poreless, depending on my plans. They’re all decent but Porefessional is definitely my favorite of the three.

Everybody that is saying Smashbox primers is totally correct! I love mine but I use the one that is for really oily skin, which it sounds like you should be using the green tinted one 🙂

Hey! I love the Laura Mercier Foundation primer, it’s a bit more price-y but the best primer I’ve used so far, make-up lasts for hours afterwards. It’s not overly sticky or silicone-y (the worst, classic primer fault).
Ask for a sample at your nearest counter and see how it works for you?
Best,

I love using my MAC CC cream in yellow. I have a lot of redness and the yellow helps cancel it out and the best part is that it is a primer with SPF 30 which is awesome since I don’t like piling on too many products on my face. It is $30 but you can go in to ask for samples and they will make you one 🙂 xoxo Janet

Yes I love it!!! They have a powder and cream version and I use the cream version. I have red all over my face and I love that it covers it all up and gives me the sun protection I need. Before I bought it I was also a little cheap to pay for it so I would ask for samples constantly of that and their BB Cream lol. I finally caved when I realized I actually would use the stuff all the time 🙂

That is so me! But I am finding that I rather pay more for a product especially if it is going to work. I am definitely going to ask for a sample of this because I am really excited to see how it will work for me.

I only use the green Smashbox primer and I LOVE it! I have fairy red skin and it completely evens it out. It’s not heavy on my skin either, which I love, and it can be worn alone, which I also love! Apparently you can get super small sizes I case you don’t want to commit to the full size 😉
Good luck!

That is the one I have been thinking about!! I was originally going to buy it but I opted out for Maybelline’s instead because it was obviously a lot cheaper. I definitely need that coverage for my red skin.
Thank you so much!

For sure, Smashbox is expensive… But a little goes a long way with this product, which is nice. Also, I was told by a few makeup artists that Smashbox effectively invented primer so they only use them!
I tried the Clinique redness reducing primer, and it’s really thick and you need a lot. It didn’t do for me what I thought it could.
I’m really hoping you get a bunch of samples and review them! Can’t wait to read 🙂

Smashbox definitely seems like the winner! They are expensive, but I have a few of their products and I can’t say anything bad about them. A lot of people rave about their primers, so I am thinking that is what I am leaning to. I am glad you told me about Clinique because I hate thickness! I need to have a primer that is so light and works effectively. I will for sure get a bunch of samples! I love testing various products out!
And yay, you’re Canadian too! I just saw your other comment 🙂

So I usually don’t do this I share my love of a product and then people usually come to me and want to know more. So I was a little hesitant to post this but I feel I must! Yes I’m biased because I am a consultant for the company but Glorious Primer is something I just can’t live without. I am obsessssssssssssedd with making everyone’s look complete. If you know me you don’t leave Brittany’s chair until your whole look is on point. Like I can do a fade in like 5 minutes then literally spend 20 minutes blending it and making it perfect. So with that said I was trying to find a good short video because Im still working on my personal tutorials. So its meh But you will get the idea its WAY BETTER IN PERSON. Point is I use this primer numerous times daily on myself or my clients whether its makeup or hair. I use this on super long hair because as you know all the ends were at one point at the top so they tend to frizz up. Also after a color Bleach especially!…It’s gonna look frizzy and I used to use expensive silk serum drops but have now switched to the primer. I love how its versatile like that because its nature based! Haha wow just left you a novel don’t think I have ranted that long about a totally different use for a product than it was ment for. So i’ll keep it short unless I get excited again.
So as for your face and using this product I don’t think I have ever in my 10 year career as a stylist that I’ve ever come across a primer that literally works for every skin type. I think that and the fact that it actually heals your skin is my favorite thing. Since I know your a beauty blogger I used to never leave home or show up for a wedding without Urban decay’s de-slick setting spray and Clinque and their super primer. That;s how safe I feel about this product it sets doesn’t go anywhere even after hours and hours. It gives your skin a glow too! Im more of a an eye and bronzer girl but I put this on all over my face plus it accents my pigments and makes them pop. So last corny note I dunno why but I refer to it as my Optimus Prime! hahah kinda a dumb running joke. I hope this help!
